Code of Ethics

when I am conducting your wedding ceremony

a. I am conducting a legal ceremony.

b. I am organising a ceremony which suits you and abides by your personal wishes.

I am more than happy to give you advice and some ideas, however the final decision is yours.

I gain enormous satisfaction out of seeing the wedding celebration “come together” between the three of us.

I am required by law under the Marriage Act, and as recently instructed by the Attorney-General’s Department.

The legal paper work you will require can be obtained by me (this is part of my services to you)

Or from the Federal Attorney-General’s website.

The NOTICE OF INTENDED MARRIAGE is the document I fill in and you sign to inform the Attorney General’s Department of your intended marriage.  This MUST be lodged with myself at least one calendar month plus one day before the proposed date of the wedding.

I will also be supplying for you all the other legal documents which will be required by Law.

I will be submitting your wedding certificate to the Attorney-General’s Department two days after your wedding.

You will need to supply:   Two identifications.  One with a photo. i.e. Passport, Drivers Licence, Original Birth Certificate of the country you were born in.  A Statutory declaration may be used in the rare instance of a birth certificate being unavailable.  To apply for a birth certificate in South Australia visit the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs.

If you have been married before, you will need to supply evidence of your divorce or death certificate of your former spouse.

If you are under the age of 18, there are specific documents and specifications which must be adhered to.  We can work it out!

There will be three certificates ready for signing on the day.  These are the Registry Office copy, my copy and your own copy.

You will need to choose two people:  over the age of 18 to be your legal witnesses.  These people do not need to be in the Bridal Party.  You might like to choose two people to have the honour outside of the bridal party.  It’s a great way of including more people in your wedding.  Of course, any member of the bridal party (over the age of 18) maybe witnesses.

I will be at the wedding venue half an hour before the ceremony, unless you would like more time with me, then just let me know. (We will be in contact any time after you have signed the Notice of Intention to Marry).

Please note: You must be happy with your ceremony, so please keep in check with me anytime, you would like to change something. Remember, I am working for YOU.

Please make sure, there is a table for signing and two chairs. We need to be able to place the three certificates on the table and have room for bride’s flowers.

Please check on the rules at your chosen venue for throwing of confetti or rice.  You might like to incorporate this on your invitations.

Most Wedding venues will automatically arrange tables and chairs etc.  If you have any difficulties with this at all please advise me and I will arrange.

Of course, if you are having your ceremony in a garden or you own back yard or a botanic park, we will chat about this and arrange accordingly.

I have my own wireless sound and microphone system.

Two very important factors to note:

Dear...

Thank you for your enquiry and congratulations on your engagement!  You are going to be having a very exciting and busy time in your life for your Fiance and yourself, I would be privileged to have a chat you to let you know a little about myself and how I conduct my wedding ceremonies.

I can confidently say, that I can make that journey less stressful and be available to you 24/7 for the time frame leading up to your wedding date. I absolutely love my profession and although I get a lot of fun and get to meet lovely people, I do take it very seriously. I take pride in producing a marriage ceremony for your individual needs and wishes. Taking into consideration, your personalities and the "tapestry" of your relationship is of upmost importance to me.

I have an extensive variety of vows, readings, poems and music for you to choose from or of course you can choose your favourites and use your own lists. Your complete wedding ceremony will be exactly as you wish it to be.

My initial meet with you and your fiance is absolutely obligation free in every way. I also loan, for the wedding ceremony my Ring Cushion (it is very pretty in white satin), this is complimentary and I have sent you a photo. I also have my own wireless sound system and microphone for your use on the wedding day, if required.

If you have not already done so, please look at my facebook page "Jan Niehus Civil Marriage Celebrant" and my web site: http://jancelebrant.wix.com/marriages.  You will see there, my email address and my phone no.  However, they are jan.celebrant@internode.on.net and mobile no. 0434 134 440.  If you would like to send me your phone number so I can contact you I would welcome it.  As you have probably seen from my website and face book page, I live in the Adelaide Hills and have done so for most of my adult life and love it.

I prefer to meet and speak to my Brides and Grooms to get an idea of what they require in the way of their perfect wedding, before I quote.  I am a member of the Celebrant’s Association of South Australia and adhere to their guidelines which is $600 for a ceremony. This sometimes (not often) can vary either way, on some occasions, I am open to negotiation. Please be aware a marriage at the Registry Office in Grenfell Street is $340, which is just the reading of Marriage Act and pronouncing as Husband and Wife.

For this price, you have me as your legal celebrant with all the legal paper work done for you, my licence as a Bridal Celebrant with the Attorney Generals Department, presentation to the Birth Deaths and Marriages after the ceremony.  I will write your ceremony with as much or as little input on your behalf and send you drafts of same until you are completely happy with finished document.

I would very much welcome a chat with you initially over the phone.  Have a lovely day.

Kind regards, Jan
